ScubaDoRag does REEF in Dominica!
On an adventure to Dominica’s Castle Comfort Dive Lodge, home of Dive Dominica, REEF’s Executive Director, Lisa Mitchell taught ScubaDoRag’s Susan Martin the fun and merits of counting fish. Besides the bounty, we and the Barrowcudas (a fun, adventurous group that adopted us) saw fish we had never seen and there were babies and juveniles on every reef.
It was so exciting that many of the Barrowcudas are already REEF members and were just as thrilled to meet Lisa. After every dive, the REEF book pages were flipping to find our treasures. Please get involved and participate in what REEF says, “Diving that counts.” I just signed up today – very easy.
REEF.org The Reef Environmental Education Foundation is a grass-roots organization that seeks to conserve marine ecosystems by educating, enlisting and enabling divers and other marine enthusiasts to become active ocean stewards and citizen scientists.
What a treasure of a resort, Castle Comfort Dive Lodge and Dive Dominica – comfortable character, fresh vegetables, fruit and juices, great food, Sukie bread, lush countryside, waterfalls, Screw’s Spa (yes, his name is Screw), rainbows, dolphins, Big Mama’s island tour, incredible dive staff - no dive gods here - just knowledgeable, professional, fun (and now stylish after I dressed them in ScubaDoRag gear and ScubaTubeSocks. They are our newest dealer). |

Dear Derek and Ginette:
Please excuse me for typing this note. My handwriting is awful. Words cannot convey the magnitude of the gratitude that I have for you and your staff.
I want to thank you and the staffs of Castle Comfort Lodge and Dive Dominica or your contributions in saving my life and for providing comfort to Sharon during that terrible ordeal.
I don't know some of the names of the divemasters and boat captains that contributed so much to saving my life and I don't know how to contact them but I want them to know how appreciative I am of their efforts. If it were not for their heroic and quick work, I would not be alive today. I would appreciate it if you would let them read this note so that they will know how grateful I am.
You and your staff were so courteous and comforting to Sharon and me at this time that we are very grateful for that too. We will remember you all with love and gratitude for the rest of our lives.
I am well and feel as though nothing had happened. I hope to live many more years, thanks to you.
Thank you, again
Tom Nelson

Dear Derek and Ginette,
Bill and I wanted you to know how much we enjoyed the Castle Comfort Lodge, the fabulous diving, the mouth watering banana pancakes, your friendly staff, the Kabulis, the tranquil, relaxed evenings, the whale watch (saw 9+),the beautiful sunsets(didn't see the green flash), and our list goes on and on.
Thank you both for making this so special for us. We feel blest that you came into our lives.....and we hope you feel the same. We plan on coming back to Castle Comfort next year....hopefully with a big group, so they can experience what great diving and warm hospitality is all about.
We appreciate your adjustment on our bill re: dives not made due to illness.
Thanks for the ride home from Mass, and the stop along the way.
Bubbles and Hugs,
Bill and Trina Rambo |

Greetings:
This is just a word of thanks for the great dive trip that you and your staff put together for us during our recent visit to Dominica. My group of thirty all had a great time. This not only includes diving but also whale watching, rain forest exploration, birding, waterfall visits, visits to the Carib village, local musical entertainment, and all the great meals that we enjoyed.
Our particular thanks goes to the dive crew who assisted Tom Nelson with his medical problem. Their rapid and professional response to the emergency situation probably saved his life. I recently talked to him and he is doing fine.
We all enjoyed ourselves and the chance to meet new friends during our visit to Dominica. We’ll look forward to visit you again someday.
Respectfully,
Walt Glowski Douglas Dive Club |

Just a note to say thanks for a wonderful
dive trip and island adventure. I truly enjoyed the
diving both shore and boat and want very much to return
for more diving but also more land exploration. Everyone
on the staff was very helpful and made me feel relaxed
and at home. This was a first visit to Dominica but
surely not the last.

Blue
Water Photo group |

On behalf of the 6 divers comprising
the Blue Water Photo group I want to thank you for
helping to make our time in Dominica so enjoyable.
We were at Castle Comfort Dive Lodge and dove with
Dive Dominica from May 17th to the 26th of 2007 and
had a great time. All the staff at the resort and
dive shop were so helpful. The rooms were well kept
and clean, the dive staff helped on shore dives, and
the kitchen and table servers...well food is one of
my measures of how a trip is for me and it was great.
The underwater scenery and marine life was so exciting.
Our first dive was off the dock to check out our gear
and photo equipment. We were greeted by not one but
two turtles within 3 minutes of entering the water.
We saw numerous adult and juvenile Spotted Drum. The
Feather Duster tube worms were the largest we have
ever encountered. The sandy slope was home to hundreds
of Garden Eels. There was also a pair of Flying Gurnards
that performed for us. After enjoying our dive and
satisfied that both the scuba and photo gear were
fine, we started our return to the dock. Fortunately
we all had air remaining in our tanks as my attention
was diverted by something swimming through the water
to my right. Heading for a rock formation in 32 feet
of water was the biggest octopus that I have seen
other that in aquariums or on the Discovery Channel.
He/she had a head the size of a basketball and the
tentacle were at least 24" long. It was hard
to tell after that first glimpse as the octopus made
it to the rock formation before I did. The area was
too tight for the octopus to completely hide so we
were able to get a few digital images.
We have been used to just diving on trips before so
the island of Dominica was a very special treat. There
were so many land tours available that it was hard
to decide. We chose to travel the paths and climb
over boulders to get to the refreshing pool at the
base of Trafalgar Falls. An experience I will never
forget. Our next tour took us through the woods and
down into a small valley where we found the picturesque
Emerald Pool. The water there was also refreshing.
We also traveled to Ti Tou Gorge and swam up the throat
to the water fall inside the gorge. I am waiting for
our grandchildren to come over so we can watch Pirates
of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest and point out
to them that their Poppy and Gran were at the location
that a scene was filmed for the movie.
I have had nothing but positive comments about this
Dominica trip from our group. The island is somewhat
difficult to get to and from but we all left feeling
that we will be back. Thank you again for all your
help and express our gratitude to Derek, Ginette,
and the entire staff at Castle Comfort Dive Lodge/Dive
Dominica. |

Just
a quick note to let you all know just how much Tom
and I enjoyed our visit to Castle Comfort. Your dive
operation was way above average. Your staff was so
friendly and helpful. We enjoyed all our meals we
had there and your kitchen staff was wonderful.
And what a beautiful island you have!!!!!
We would love to return some day.
Warmest regards, G and T
